Portraits of a Lady

I  did more than my average amount of writing in last week’s post. This week, I’ve decided to be lazy and rely on eye candy. I will simply say that I don’t think anyone has portrayed Wonder Woman with as much dignity and respect as Alex Ross. Consider some of the evidence:

You may have some other favorite artist(s) and therefore beg to differ, but I think these images are the most eloquent statement of my case. I find the artistic representations of Wonder Woman by Alex Ross to be the most commendable from a standpoint of feminism and stimulating our imaginations for expanding the roles of women in society.

  1. Wow! Alex Ross is one of my favorite artists for the Justice League, period. He really captures the scope and dignity of all those characters. I especially liked the version from the graphic novel Kingdom Come.

Another favorite of mine is Adam Hughes. His Wonder Woman is absolutely gorgeous, although with not quite the same amount of gravity as Ross’ version.

I have several books by both artists in my collection.

    1. Kingdom is currently my favorite graphic novel. I liked the general approach to the story, and I originally bought it so that I could see all the panels by Alex Ross. I have high hopes for the Wonder Woman movie, and we’ll be able to tell if they did it right in a couple of months. I’m going to look up some images by Adam Hughes based on your recommendation. Take care.
